"Art is not a mirror to hold up to society, but a hammer with which to shape it."

Incontrovertible proof #ows has already changed our culture: “occupation” gains yet another shade of meaning; forever changed.

Being occupied
Job/Occupation
Occupied territory
Early 21st Century social movement

Right?

“This is a visceral, impassioned, deep-seated rejection of the entire direction of our society, a refusal to take even one more step forward into the shallow commercial abyss of phoniness, short-term calculation, withered idealism and intellectual bankruptcy that American mass society has become. If there is such a thing as going on strike from one’s own culture, this is it.”

Matt Taibbi

A more sustainable society is ultimately what I ask for. #ows is merely a vehicle. It’s time that we as humans ask ourselves some important questions about our future and the future of the earth before it’s too late. That is why this movement is becoming so widespread - it’s a human effort, not a political one. Thoughtfulness and compassion need to come first. Let’s at least try to clean up this mess we’ve made of the planet!

"Read as much as you can. Listen to as much as you can. Travel as much as you can. Meet as many people as you can. Just gather all this shit for years and years, and when you think your head is almost full, then you start over, because your head is very, very empty."

Erik Spiekermann
